Now this is FUNNY!
An elderly man on a moped, looking about 100 years old, pulls up next to a doctor at a street light.
The old man looks over at the sleek shiny car and asks, 'What kind of car ya got there, sonny?'
The doctor replies, 'A Ferrari GTO. It cost half a million dollars! '
'That's a lot of money,' says the old man. 'Why does it cost so much?'
'Because this car can do up to 230 miles an hour!' states the doctor proudly.
The moped driver asks, 'Mind if I take a look inside?'
'No problem,' replies the doctor.
So the old man pokes his head in the window and looks around. Then, sitting back on his moped, the old man says, 'That's a pretty nice car, all right... But I'll stick with my moped!'
Just then the light changes, so the doctor decides to show the old man just what his car can do. He floors it, and within 20 seconds the speedometer reads 160 mph.
Suddenly, he notices a dot in his rear view mirror. It seems to be getting closer!
He slows down to see what it could be and suddenly WHOOOOSSSHHH !
Something whips by him going much faster!
'What on earth could be going faster than my Ferrari ?' the doctor asks himself.
He presses harder on the accelerator and takes the Ferrari up to 200 mph.
Then, up ahead of him, he sees that it's the old man on the moped!
Amazed that the moped could pass his Ferrari, he gives it more gas and passes the moped at 220 mph. He's feeling pretty good until he looks in his mirror and sees the old man gaining on him AGAIN!
Astounded by the speed of this old guy, he floors the gas pedal and takes the Ferrari all the way up to 230 mph.
Not ten seconds later, he sees the moped bearing down on him again! The Ferrari is flat out, and there's nothing he can do!
Suddenly, the moped plows into the back of his Ferrari, demolishing the rear end.
The doctor stops and jumps out and, unbelievably, the old man is still alive.
He runs up to the banged-up old guy and says, 'I'm a doctor.... Is there anything I can do for you?'
The old man whispers,
'Unhook my suspenders from your side view mirror!'.

A Concern I Have About George Washington
I Wonder... Was reading recently that George Washinton wore wooden dentures. That got me thinking. I wonder if he lived in fear of woodpeckers, termites and the emerald ash borer?

The Positive Value of Having a Sense of Humour
When you have a good sense of humour and can easily make people laugh at home, work and at play great things begin to happen. People like you and are more open to your ideas and opinions.
When you able to laugh at yourself a bonding takes place that impacts positively on any group you are a part of. People like to be with people who are fun and don't take themselves too seriously. As C.S. Lewis once said," Life is too serious to be taken seriously."
When inevitable conflict raises its destructive head a sense of humour, and the resulting laughter, serves as a social lubricant which helps us deal with conflict in a reasonable way that avoids frustration, anger and alienation.
" When it feels good to laugh then laugh to feel good." M Moore Isn't this what enjoyment is all about?
It is important to remember that you aren't born with a sense of humour. It can be learned at any age. All you need is the desire and a few instructions.

Article: When I Was Your Age... By Mike Moore
Have you ever noticed that we often end up doing and saying
things we vowed we never would?
When I was a teenager I asked my Dad for a ride to school
after a severe snowstorm covered Sault Ste. Marie to a depth of six miles. The
school was about two miles from my home and I was trying hard to convince my
Dad that my death would be on his conscience if he made me walk in that kind of
weather. His response was predictable. “When
I was your age I walked to school in snow drifts up to my neck. ”
I always doubted him
when he said this as I knew he grew up in Ingersoll in southern Ontario. I don't think Ingersoll ever got snow drifts
as high as Dad described them. Anyway, I
got his message and headed out to school under my own power. I recall thinking
as I ploughed through snow, I will never, under any circumstances, say to my
kids, “When I was your age.”
The years rolled by, I got married and fathered four
wonderful children. On many occasions I
found myself uttering the very words I vowed I would never would, “When I was
your age.... ”. I am sure their thoughts
were the same as mine, “I will never utter those words when I have kids of my own.” But, I was wrong.
Years later when my son Kevin was in his early twenties he
got a summer job harvesting tobacco. It
was a long, hard, dirty job and he would come home each night with his buns
around his ankles.
One evening he stood in front of me with a smile on his
dirty, weary face and said, “Well now I've got my own, when I was your age”.
Someday I'll be able to say to my kids, “When I was your age I worked on
tobacco from dawn to dusk in the heat and humidity, never complaining.......”
And so it continues
This is just one of the stories from my popular book, “Light
Up with Laughter”. Check it out at

A Funny Life Experience: LET’S GO HOME
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon. You know, the kind of afternoon that shouts
to every man, “Let’s go shopping for furniture.” My wife said we needed a new chair, an
ottoman and a painting for the family room and would like to have me there to
help pick them out. My powers of
decorative selection are known far and wide, I guess.
I reluctantly agreed but pointed out that my bad back
precluded any heavy lifting. We would
have to get their employees to carry whatever furniture we bought, to our van.
Carol agreed saying that the last thing she wanted was me moaning and groaning
from back pain.
After an hour or three looking we had the items selected and
paid for. All that remained for us to do
was to get them to the van, then home where our three grown sons could take
over.
When I explained my medical incapacity to the sales person
she said that the men who did the heavy lifting were out on a delivery and
wouldn't be back for quite a while. At
this point my misguided masculine pride took over and I heard myself saying
something like, “I can handle this stuff. It isn't that heavy. ” “Michael, (she
always calls me Michael when she goes for emphasis) you will not touch that
furniture. I do not want you flat on
your back writhing in pain for two months” “But who's going to carry it if I
don’t?” I asked. “We will,” she said, pointing to two attractive, well dressed
young sales women.
With that Carol and her squad of power lifters went to work
hoisting and carrying the chair, ottoman and huge picture while I, her 6'
3" 200 pound husband, stood watching. We left the store with Carol and her
high heeled helpers carrying the furniture while I tagged along behind them
looking sheepishly at the six million other shoppers all of whom just happened
to be looking directly at me. It was
difficult, but I resisted the overwhelming temptation to explain why I was
carrying nothing but my wife's purse. “Let’s go home.”
Just seeing humour in a situation is almost as effective as
the laughter it evokes.
Always take the comic view of life.
Time spent laughing is time spent with the gods.

Light Up With Laughter...A Moving Experience?
True Story.
After one of my talks a man came up to me and said," I bought your book " Light Up With
Laughter" the last time I heard you speak and now I keep it in the bathroom and read it often.
" Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he added, " I really find it moves me."
I started to laugh and said," Well , if you're going to be moved that's the place you want it to happen."
HUMOUR IS EVERYWHERE.

Nice Things Often Happen When Least Expected
.
It was a Sunday just 15 minutes before nine a.m. Mass. Carol and I had just finished parking the car when we saw a middle aged woman approaching with a huge smile on her face. I asked Carol if she knew who it was and she said no. I didn't either.
When she got to the car she stopped and tapped on the window. When I rolled it down she said, " Hi. You don't know me but I recognized you from the photo on the back of your book," Light Up With Laughter" I just had to come over and tell you how much I enjoyed it and say thanks for providing me with a few hours of laughter and joy.
I smiled and thanked her for taking the time to come over and talk to me and that I was so glad she enjoyed my book.
She went on her way and I have never seen her since.
One affirming remark, accompanied by a genuine smile really made my day for I walked 2 feet off the ground for hours.

Laughter Therapy: Mining the Moment
Whenever I speak to people on the therapeutic nature of
humour I encourage them to become laughologists and in so doing commit
themselves to a process I call mining the moment. When you mine the moment you examine each
human experience for the humour it contains and laugh heartily when it is
discovered.
Most of us experience
funny things happening to us, or those around us, every day. When we do, we might chuckle and continue
doing what we were doing. Mining the
moment asks us to stay with the chuckle and fan its embers into genuine
laughter. Then drain every last drop of
humour and laughter from the experience.
Why is it so important to look for humour in everything we
experience? Because humour and laughter
are much more than mere amusement, they are very good for our health and
well-being.
When we laugh great
things happen. The oxygen in our blood
increases giving us renewed energy. Our
stress levels go down and we begin to relax.
Did you know that it is impossible to worry when we laugh? The immune system is stimulated by laughter
and endorphins are released within the body giving us a strong sense of
well-being. Laughter also reduces our
blood pressure.
In social relationships laughter has concrete and specific
benefits. It has been called social glue because it bonds us to one another. In
any family or organization bonding is vital to the successful functioning of
the group. The group that laughs together, lasts together. Laughter is also
referred to as social lubricant because, just as the oil in a car engine
reduces friction thus allowing the car to run smoothly and efficiently, so does
laughter reduce inevitable friction in social relationships. People who laugh
together tend to be happier, more productive, more flexible and open to change.
The value of humour in the workplace is a good example. It
reduces stress among employees, significantly reduces absenteeism, and boosts
morale, productivity and increases job satisfaction.
I remember speaking to a blue collar worker in a large Toronto
company just before I was to speak on Humour in the Workplace. I asked him if
he liked his job. His response surprised me. He said,” No, I hate it, but I
love coming to work.” When I asked him how he could hate his job but love
coming to work he replied, “The people I work with are fantastic and we have a
lot of laughs.
The message is clear. No matter whether you’re in a family,
among friends or at work laughter offers a huge benefits. All it takes is a commitment to mining the
moments of the day for the humour they contain and giving ourselves permission
to laugh long and hard when we find it. Then sit back and watch great things
begin to happen.
I would like to leave you with these two quotes.
Any leader without a sense of humour is like a grass cutter
at a cemetery. They have a lot of people under them paying absolutely NO
attention.
Life is too serious to be taken seriously.
Let the laughter begin.

Proof that Laughter is The Best Medicine
I am always on the lookout for articles that reinforce my strong belief that laughter is the best medicine. For many years people would say it so often that it became cliché. In the past few years things have changed. More evidence is emerging to validate the claim and of course there I am in the midst of the discussion gobbling up all the supportive information I can.
Ever since I was introduced to the writings of Norman Cousins in, "Anatomy of an Illness", I have been fascinated by the role of the human mind in healing and wellness, specifically the role of humour and laughter. When Norman Cousins was diagnosed with a terminal illness in midlife, he immediately set out to alter his fate.
Through attitudinal transformation he shifted his thinking from negative to positive, from fear to hope. By saturating his life with humour and laughter he was able, with the co-operation of modern medicine of course, to overcome his terminal illness.
When Cousins died a few years ago he was in his seventies and the illness had never returned.
Recently, researchers at the Loma Linda Medical School in California validated the findings of Norman Cousins regarding the role of humour and laughter in healing and wellness. Doctor Stanley Tann has discovered that laughing frequently helps healthy people stay happy and healthy and sick people recover more rapidly.
He also found that laughter triggered physiological changes that benefit the lungs, muscles, heart, nerves, hormones and the entire immune system. Humour, it was discovered, kicked the immune system into high gear and actually prevented stress from undermining our immunity. With the renewed emphasis on a healthy immune system in recent years this is good news indeed.
Humour was found to reduce stress levels by one half and significantly raise the levels of gamma interferon, an immune system hormone. This alone is an important medical find due to the fact that stress is a leading cause of illness throughout North America. I read recently that 85 percent of all doctor visits are related to stress induced illness.
The activity of killer cells which destroy viruses and tumours was increased by twenty percent in the presence of laughter and humour. "B" cells, which produce antibodies to combat diseases are empowered by laughter, and an immune system component called immunoglobulin increased by ten percent.
By the way, nervous and cynical laughter did not produce the same positive results.

Five Ways to Sharpen Your Sense of Humor and Improve Your Relationships By Mike Moore
Five Ways to Sharpen Your Sense of Humor and Improve Your
Relationships
Humor has long been considered one of the most
effective tools to judge the quality of any relationship and
this applies, as well, to the speaker/audience relationship.
If there is laughter present you can be sure the relationship
you have with your audience is a great one. When the laughter
ceases so does audience attention. I always say that what
people learn laughing they remember. If you want to have a
more positive, fulfilling relationship with your audience you
might want to consider sharpening your sense of humor as a
great place to start.
Here are five ways to improve your sense of humor and improve
your relationships in the process.
1. Begin to cultivate an atmosphere of humor and laughter
in your relationships by focussing on the funny things in
life and enjoying the laughter they evoke. Soon you will be
seeing humor all over and enjoying it fully.
2. If you don ’t laugh as much as you used to and want to
correct the situation start associating with humorous, fun
loving people and avoid the downers.
3. Learn to laugh at yourself. If you don’t you leave the job
to others. So many people are unable to laugh at themselves
because of their own insecurities and fears. We are afraid to
look foolish in the eyes of others and appear to be
incompetent. It is important to realize that we all make
mistakes and when we do a good laugh makes the mistake seem
trivial and human.
4. Collect cartoons and jokes and put them on display on the
fridge or the bulletin board for all to see and enjoy. Make
sure to avoid racist, sexist or filthy humor. There is plenty
of good clean humor to go around without resorting to these.
Remember that there is a difference between dirty and earthy
humor. I personally like earthy humor. I don’t appreciate
dirty material.
5. Use humor to neutralize conflict in your relationships.
When things get tense use self deprecating humor to lighten
things up. I remember one evening having an argument with my
wife, Carol. In the heat of the moment she said something
totally out of character. She said something hurtful. In my
surprise I looked at her and said, “ Carol, when you say
things like that you stoop to my level.” She started to laugh
and so did I. It wasn’t long before things were back to normal.
Remember that a sense of humor is learned, not
inherited. You can sharpen your sense of humor if you really
want to. When you do, you will find that your relationships
become richer and more rewarding and that people find you more
attractive and fun to be with. This alone makes improving
your sense of humor worth the effort.
